Get Photoshop Elements for 50% Off in November, Edit Photos with EaseWindows/Mac: We're big fans of Photoshop when it comes to photo editing, but it's a little on the pricey side. If you want advanced photo editing without paying hundreds of dollars, Photoshop Elements is great?and you can grab it for only $50 for the next two weeks.

Many of you mentioned Photoshop Elements as your favorite Photoshop alternative in the comments of our App Directory, and while we don't talk about it a ton, it is a good alternative to its $700 big brother (not to mention it can do some pretty cool stuff). Usually priced at $100, Costco is currently selling Photoshop Elements 11 for only $50 ($54 for non-members), along with a free scrapbooking CD and 50 free prints to sweeten the deal. If iPhoto and Picasa aren't cutting it for your basic photo needs, Photoshop Elements is a worthy alternative. The deal ends November 25.

Maryland Humanities Council Seeks Titles for 2013 One Maryland ...

What book should Marylanders read together in 2013?? Help the Maryland Humanities Council (MHC) choose the 2013 One Maryland One Book (OMOB) selection.? Readers should submit suggestions under the theme of ?A pivotal and impactful moment in time? by November 21.

One Maryland One Book, a signature program of the Maryland Center for the Book at the Maryland Humanities Council, is designed to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book. Readers are invited to participate in book-centered discussions and other programs at public libraries, high schools, colleges and universities, museums, bookstores, and community and senior centers. The 2012 OMOB pick, the haunting Steven Galloway novel The Cellist of Sarajevo, captured thousands of participants for the October author tour and programs around the state this fall, with some discussions extending into the end of November.

Submissions from educators, librarians, partners, and the public are the first step of the selection process. A committee then reviews the list of suggested titles, and each member provides his or her top 10 choices to Maryland Humanities Council staff.? In January the committee meets to discuss the suggested titles and parses the list down to the top three choices, later voting to establish the One Maryland One Book pick.

In addition to its annual theme, choices must also satisfy the following criteria:

? * appeal to a wide range of readers of different backgrounds and reading levels
? * be able to connect to high school-age readers as well as adults
? * be up to 350 pages in length
? * be available in paperback (and other formats, such as electronic and audio)
? * note: a Maryland author or setting is a consideration but not a requirement

Suggestions of book titles and their authors should be sent to OMOB Program Officer Andrea Lewis at alewis@mdhc.org by noon on Wednesday November 21.

The Maryland Humanities Council is a statewide, educational, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to stimulate and promote informed dialogue and civic engagement on issues critical to Marylanders. Learn more at www.mdhc.org.

(AP) ? Rihanna rocked lingerie at Wednesday night's Victoria's Secret fashion show in New York, providing the highlight of the live-music soundtrack and holding her own on the catwalk with some of the world's top models.

And those models even had props, including Adriana Lima's ringmaster wand, Doutzen Kroes' body cage and several pairs of the oversized wings that the retailer has made its signature. It would be a close contest who got the biggest wings: Toni Garrn's giant poppy pair or Miranda Kerr's swan-style feathered pouf. Only Lily Aldridge could boast star-spangled wings that shot out silver sparkles.

Alessandra Ambrosio's orchid-petal wings might have lacked a little grandeur, but she made up for it with a $2.5 million jeweled "floral fantasy bra."

Still, wearing a sheer pink mini that gave glimpses of her bra, Rihanna sang "Fresh Out the Runway" at the end of the corset-and-garter parade and she was the one to grab the audience's biggest applause.

The fashion show has become a pre-holiday season tradition for the retailer. CBS will turn it into a one-hour special, which also had performances from Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, to be shown on Dec. 4.

Lima said she loved opening the show in the ringmaster costume. "The atmosphere of the Victoria's Secret fashion show is electric," she said. "It's so much fun to be able to interact with the audience! What other show will you see Rihanna, Justin Beiber and Bruno Mars on the runway with angels?"

This year's event had a slight twist. It started with an announcer noting that Victoria's Secret and CBS had each made a donation to relief efforts for Superstorm Sandy, and a thank you to the National Guard members who are based out of the Lexington Avenue Armory that has for years been home to the show.

Mostly, though, models are encouraged to smile, ham it up and show off the extra time at the gym that most admit to in the weeks beforehand. "It's highly televised, and you take that into consideration," said model Joan Smalls ahead of the show. "This is kind of not the same as other runways. You have to prepare your body: No. 1 is the wings are heavy, and No. 2 is you have to be comfortable with your body because the camera will pick up on it if you're not comfortable and confident."

There's an emphasis on glitz, skin and dramatic production here, not wearable undergarment trends for typical Victoria's Secret shoppers. It was divided into six sections: Circus, complete with acrobats, contortionists and a sword eater; Dangerous Liaisons; Pink Is Us; Silver Screen Angels; Angels in Bloom; and Calendar Girls, which allowed Bruno Mars to serenade a model for each month of the year.

For his first song, "Beauty and the Beat," Bieber, wearing low-slung white pants and a white leather studded vest, sat alone with his guitarist in the mellowest part of the show. For "As Long As You Love Me," however, he brought in backup dancers and interacted with the models while moving around a giant makeshift pinball machine.

"It's like a dream come true," said Bieber on the pink carpet before the show. "I would rather be here than anywhere in the world."

Financial Literacy Month-BMO's Tip of the Day: Invest in an RRSP

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 7, 2012) - To mark Financial Literacy Month, BMO Financial Group is releasing a series of financial tips throughout November. As part of 'Making Money Make Sense' and BMO SmartSteps, the tips are designed to help individuals and families save and manage their day-to-day finances more effectively.

BMO's Tip of the Day: Consider investing in a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and taking advantage of tax incentives when saving for retirement.

What is an RRSP?

An RRSP is a registered plan that allows you to save for retirement in a tax-efficient manner.

  • Within an RRSP, portfolio investors can hold a variety of investments including guaranteed investment certificates (GICs), mutual funds, exchanged traded funds (ETFs), bonds and equities.
  • The money you invest within an RRSP grows tax free. Since you pay no tax on investment growth while your money remains invested in an RRSP, your investments compound far more quickly than they would if invested outside of an RRSP.
  • Additionally, annual contributions (up to a maximum of $22,970 for the 2012 tax year) made into an RRSP are tax deductible based on your unused deduction room. This can result in a lower income tax bill.

"Investing in an RRSP should be a staple in any retirement savings plan, as it's the most tax-effective way to generate the funds you need to become financially secure in your retirement," said Marlena Pospiech, Senior Retirement Strategist, BMO Financial Group. "Whether you've been contributing to an RRSP for years or are just getting started, make sure you invest on a consistent basis, regardless of the amount."

Here is how an RRSP can work to your advantage:

The example below illustrates the difference in savings between a fixed annual RRSP and non-RRSP investment, assuming a 5 to 6 per cent average annual rate of return on a $10,000 annual investment over a 30 year period. With tax-deferred compound growth in an RRSP and investing regularly this can amount to a substantial difference in accumulated savings over time.

RRSP Non-RRSP
Amount Invested Annually $10,000 $10,000
Years Invested 30 years 30 years
Marginal Tax Rate N/A 46%
Average Annual Return 6% 6%
Total Savings After 30 Years $838,016.77 $510,717.60

BMO Financial Group's RRSP Savings Calculator can help take the guesswork out of contributing to your RRSP by taking you through a few simple steps that will put you on the path to retirement success. Access it at http://www.bmoinvesting.com/calc/amisaving_index.asp.

"CFEE commends BMO's ongoing efforts to support Financial Literacy in Canada and promote ways in which Canadians can increase their competence and confidence when managing their personal finances on a day-to-day basis," said Gary Rabbior, President, Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE).

BMO Financial Literacy Month Tips

November 1: Maximizing TFSA investments annually over 20 years can save nearly $30,000 in taxes.

November 2: Utilize rewards to squeeze the most value out of every dollar you spend this holiday season.

November 3: Choose an investment advisor who is right for you and will help you meet your financial goals.

November 4: Use your RRSP to help make the down payment on your first home.

November 5: Space out payments to avoid cash-flow problems.

November 6: Take advantage of the benefits of preferred shares.

For more on financial literacy, Canadians can visit the Government of Canada's Financial Literacy Month website, as well as BMO's Financial Literacy online resource.

Maine Passes Gay Marriage In Historic 'Question 1' Vote

Maine voters approved gay marriage Nov. 6 through a historic public vote, the Associated Press is reporting.

The Portland Press Herald has additional information on what Human Rights Campaign (HRC) President Chad Griffin hailed as a "landmark" move. As of press time, Maine had voted 54 to 46 percent in favor of marriage equality.

"We are thrilled for all Maine families and for the dedicated campaign that led this effort through to the end," Griffin said in an email statement. "As we celebrate victory tonight we know we have added momentum to ensure that this victory is soon felt in every corner of this country."

Marriage equality opponents have previously expressed concern that if the measure passed, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocates will cite Maine as an example that public opinion on same-sex marriage has shifted over the years, according to the Associated Press.

Among those to criticize "Question 1" was State Representative David Johnson (R-Eddington), who even drew on the memory of his gay brother, who died in April, in clarifying his opposition. "It has taken me a while, but I have finally figured out that God?s plan is better than man?s plan in all aspects of life," he is quoted as saying. "He constructed marriage this way for a reason."

Still, LGBT advocates had repeatedly expressed confidence that marriage equality in Maine would pass, particularly given the state's New England location (New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts have all legalized same-sex marriage).
